Galveston, TX - The Lone Star Rally on Galveston Island in Texas is back again in 2004 with hopes of breaking more motorcycle rally attendance records for the event. The Lone Star Rally — from Sept. 23-26 — is the fastest growing Rally in America. There were 13,000 in attendance during the first year, ballooning to 165,000 the second year. With all of the promotion scheduled and the positive press from 2003, hopes of attendance figures of more than 200,000 are being talked about for 2004. Official event hours are: 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday with booths closing at 10 p.m. On Sunday, church service begins at 9 a.m. and booths open at 10 a.m. and close at 6 p.m.
Many of the top builders are already scheduled to be at the rally The theme of this year’s Rally is “Support the Troops.” The U.S. NAVY is returning as a sponsor and will provide a Destroyer as the back drop for the festivities.
Money raised will be donated the following ways: The Marine Corp League will sell all beer, soft drink and water and will retain a large portion of the revenue. The Lone Star Rally organizers are donating all of the profits from the Charity Casino and Bike Show entry fees.
This year features the AMA District 26 National Rally and Dunlop Elite Touring Series. Also, a giveaway of a 2004 Lone Star Edition Dodge Pick-up, which can be registered for at any of 400 Citgo stores, 400 Chevron stores, all Stripes stores and 450 Hooter’s locations.
Dodge will have the Tomahawk Motorcycle and the Power Wagon on display, and the winner of the Bike Show receives a trophy and a Trailer in a Bag. In addition to the aforementioned activities and festivities, there will be more than 300 vendors, 46 live, free concerts on two downtown stages, eight entertainment venues along the beach, eight poker runs, a downtown crawl and the Jack Daniels Experience.
Also, Toyota is bringing the ultra-cool Toyota Motor Sports display where you can see famous World Champion race cars and how the technology developed from winning races evolves into the cars we drive.
And if showing off your bikes’ horsepower is your thing, there will be a burn-out contest at Lazy Oaks on Stewart Road.
The Strand will be bikes only, one-way traffic and no burn-outs or wheelies. Bikes will park on the sides of the Strand but the center will be left open. NO CARS!! Finally, Von Dutch Fashions will hold a model search in Galveston for a fashion Show at the Rally.
